Focusing
The Wisdom of the body
Our bodies are always communicating to us. They tell us when we are hungry, thirsty or tired. Whenever we are angry or stressed we feel it in our bodies. Many of us can hear these more obvious messages but what would it be like if we really, deeply listened? We would find that the body knows far more than we think, has wisdom even.
Focusing is the practice of listening to these deeper places within us. Developed in the 1970’s by E Gendlin, Focusing gives us direct access to this inner knowing. It gets beneath our usual stories and self analysis to a place that knows its own way to healing and wholeness.
Focusing is about learning to listen again to an older, more ancient wisdom that lives deep in the fabric of our being.
Focusing can be used with many other practices – such as meditation, bodywork and talking therapies. It can help with resolving old patterns and making decisions or simply as a way or being more in touch with ourselves.
